Introduction
Powerful, impactful stories emerge from every region of the global ecosystem of Certified B Corporations. But too often, language barriers prevent them from generating maximum impact across different stakeholder geographies. Sistema B Brasil, for example, has been a vocal and innovative leader in elevating Black voices in Brazil and advocating for social and economic transformation. Wider knowledge of their efforts would certainly advance our global mission to incubate a more inclusive, equitable, and regenerative world for all. Unfortunately, the broader B Global Network, including B Lab U.S. & Canada, has had extremely limited access to these narratives, expressed only in Portuguese. Without proper access to this work, we were letting a golden opportunity fall by the wayside.
Seeing an opening to build bridges to purposeful impact, we decided to take a proactive approach by amplifying voices that otherwise might have gone unheard.
The Approach: Translating More than Words
Rather than waiting for a request, we immediately recognized the potential impact of translating key articles from Sistema B Brasil’s Communication and Marketing Manager and Quilombola journalist, Juliane Sousa, from Portuguese into English. These pieces, originally published on Mundo Negro, a platform dedicated to uplifting the best and brightest content by and for Black people in Brazil, highlighted the intersections of racial justice, environmental sustainability, and business as a force for good—a perspective deeply resonant with Certified B Corporations all over the world.
We worked closely with Sistema B Brasil’s team, particularly Juliane Sousa, to ensure accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and narrative strength in translation. Through this collaboration, B Lab U.S. & Canada featured these stories on B The Change, bringing greater visibility to the work being done in Brazil.
The Impact: A Growing Cross-Regional Dialogue
The results have been undeniable:
✔ Five translated articles published, three of which were featured on B The Change: Climate (In)Justice: Who does it serve?; The Paucity of Black Leaders in the Brazilian Job Market; Why the Fight for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Must Continue in Brazil (the other two articles, Water, Race, and Gender: A correlation of inequalities and Black Peoples in the Amazon: An invisible history, are available on Essentials)
✔ Greater visibility for Sistema B Brasil’s work, leading to stronger engagement across the B Global Network.
✔ A deepening relationship with Sistema B Brasil’s team, fostering long-term collaboration.
This initiative was not just about translating content; it was about cultivating connections, fostering understanding, and ensuring that impactful stories reach the global stakeholder groups that need to hear them.
Juliane’s Perspective:
Partnering with Enharmonic Encounters to amplify our efforts to generate positive economic impact in Brazil has been a golden opportunity for us. We’re not only transforming how business is done through the ecosystem of Certified B Corporations but creating pathways for individuals from underrecognized communities in Brazil to get ahead. This work must be disseminated and reach as many people as possible, because people are at the center of true transformation and will drive us toward a more just, inclusive, and regenerative world for all.
Looking Ahead: Expanding our Impact
With this foundation set, we are positioning ourselves as the go-to partner for translation and interpreting services within the B Global Network. The next step? Bringing these skills to live conferences and events, including at Encontro+B Amazônia 2025, hosted by Sistema B Brasil in Belém, Brazil, this September.
As we continue cultivating our relationship with Sistema B Brasil, we also cultivate the potential for cross-border impact—one translation at a time.
Are you looking to transport your purpose-driven message across borders? Your story deserves expert care, handled by someone who understands the heart of your mission and has the skill to translate it with authenticity and impact. It’s at these crossroads where we operate best.
