Case Study
Tallawah Consulting’s Path to B Certification
Timeline of Certification Journey: July 2025 – March 2026
Overview
Tallawah Consulting is a purpose-driven firm in Brooklyn, New York, innovating at the intersection of impact and inclusion. Leveraging evidence-based practices and social-impact initiatives as the main driver of core strategies, Marissa Davis, the company’s Founder and Principal, helps companies and organizations do better to provide meaningful benefit to the customers and communities they serve.
Already intimately familiar with the ecosystem of Certified B Corporations as a B Network Leader at the helm of B Local NYC, Marissa had wanted to take formal steps toward Certification for quite a while. However, the resources, capacity, and accountability needed to put her company through a comprehensive review to identify areas of improvement to ensure eligibility for Certification was an entirely different question.
We partnered with Marissa and created a clear path for Tallawah Consulting to officially join our ecosystem as a Certified B Corporation.

The Challenges: Limited Bandwidth, Clear Sense of Direction, and Consistent Accountability
Marissa was already intimately familiar with the ecosystem of Certified B Corporations as a B Network Leader at the helm of B Local NYC, where for years she has been a key voice for the pillars and spirit of what it means to consider people and planet in business operations. B Certification was something she always wanted to formally reflect on her own company, yet a few factors posed challenges in that pursuit:
✔ Limited Time and Bandwidth: Marissa never had the time to dedicate to the Certification process on her own, much less while also navigating her company’s ongoing work needs as a one-person team.
✔ A Sense of Direction: With a multitude of ways to approach eligibility for B Certification, Marissa was unsure of where the most relevant improvements for her company would be needed.
✔ The Need to be Held Accountable: Marissa knew that the presence of an external partner to keep her on track through the process, maintaining flexibility and sensitivity to the needs of a small business, and to serve as Tallawah Consulting’s biggest cheerleader would be crucial in getting the job done.
The Solution: Defining a Digestible Path
We met Marissa where she was and tailored a bespoke plan that was most relevant to Tallawah Consulting, ensuring the best possible pathway for success:
✔ Mapped a clear gap analysis for Marissa to understand the company’s current performance as measured against the standards with specific recommendations for impact improvement which we guided Marissa in implementing.
✔ Accentuated the company’s innate spirit of charitable giving, leveraging the Designed to Give impact business model as formal inspiration.
✔ Aligned the company’s mission and values with clear practices and mechanisms of accountability, ensuring that every aspect is accurately and consistently reflected into the future.
✔ Developed key operational policies to strengthen the company’s business infrastructure and solidify tracking mechanisms for certain metrics.
✔ Organized all documentation and interacted with B Lab during the review process on behalf of the company.
The Impact: A Stronger Company Rooted in Its Commitments
Having launched our partnership in July 2025, our technical expertise and motivational support in maintaining organization throughout our diligence process enabled us to submit our B Impact Assessment in December 2025. With our level of execution across acceptable documentation and methods of verification, we succeeded in making the case for Tallawah Consulting’s newly formalized commitments, most notably:
1️⃣ To donate 5% of top-line revenue year over year to charitable organizations working to empower historically underrecognized communities most vulnerable to the devastating impacts of community disinvestment, climate change, and prejudice. This giving commitment is honored in part through Tallawah Consulting’s new 1% for the Planet business membership.
2️⃣ To tailor services aimed at purpose-driven companies and organizations, or to transform companies into champions of purpose-driven impact. Nearly half of Tallawah Consulting’s revenue came from this area in the year under evaluation for B Certification.
3️⃣ To source at least 30% of total supplier expenditures (by dollar amount) from diverse suppliers. Tallawah Consulting adopts the National Minority Supplier Development Council’s definition of a diverse supplier—that is, at least 51% owned, managed, and controlled by a member or members of a qualified minority group.
With all of the impact that was captured and recognized during the review process, we guided Tallawah Consulting across the finish line with favorable results:
✔ B Certification Achieved: Tallawah Consulting officially became a Certified B Corporation in March 2026, just in time for Champions Retreat 2026 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Marissa could leverage her company’s new status to boost immediate marketing visibility.
✔ Formalized Business Operations: We ensured operational integrity and a clear path for growth and interoperability with B Lab’s new standards (V2).
✔ Clarity in Purpose: Moving forward, Marissa now has internal and external language to communicate that Tallawah Consulting is a highly responsible company.
Partner Perspective
Working with Enharmonic Encounters was a gift.
